SIMULATED EXPERIENCE
MILKING COW, 2015
An abstract cow that can be milked, created from sculpted wire and found farm objects. This piece asks: Can we immerse ourselves in an artistic event, realistic in nature or not, to the point that we forget that it “isn’t real”? What do we gain from participating in experiences that are simulations of living and also moments of living themselves? Does one’s brain and body react in the same way when milking a live cow in a barn as it does when milking a “cow” made from wire and calf feeding bottles?
